Carl Edwards gets floored by NASCAR

NASCAR handed down its penalties to the 99 team of Carl Edwards for failing post race inspection after winning last weeks race in Las Vegas.

After the race NASCAR found the oil reservoir cover was off, giving him an aerodynamic advantage.

According to NASCAR.com, the rule that the 99 team violated says anything that permits air to travel from one area of the interior of the car to another will not be permitted.

NASCAR hit Edwards team with the most severe penalties since Michael Waltrip got caught using an unapproved fuel in his car last year at Daytona. In fact, both teams were issued the same penalties.

Edwards was docked 100 driver points, owner Jack Roush was docked 100 owner points, and Bob Osborne was fined $100,000 and suspended for six races and placed on probation until Dec. 31, 2008.

The 99 team is not the first team to be cited for this infraction.

A number of teams in the Nationwide series were cited for the same infractions.
