I also found out yesterday that Michael Jackson died.

Here is my opinion on this whole situation. Even though no one cares or reads this.

Who cares if Danica Patrick is driving in the Nationwide Series. The media needs to stop making a big deal about it. Thats all I have seen. Danica this, danica in car that. Danica wrecks this, lets check where Danica is. Give it up media. All she is a marketing tool. She signed with the most popular driver in NASCAR history. You know she is going to draw in ratings.

I am not saying anything against her driving in the series. In fact, I think its great. The majority of NASCAR fans are women. This gives them something to cheer for. It will bring in new sponsors and money to the sport. All I am saying is will the media please give it a rest.

For example, ESPN, a station that broadcast a few NASCAR races and mostly all the Nationwide races, you never see anything about NASCAR on their station. Maybe something here and there but no consistency. They never really have anything on Sports Center about it. That is one thing that angers me. Then all of the sudden Danica signs to drive and hold the phone. Live break in on ESPN. Lets make sure we cover everything she does. Lets follow her to the bathroom. Lets put 60 cameras in her care and on her at all times so we can see her wreck. Or cry on the radio.

Ok, well I am done. I find myself rambling cause it angers me. I like that she is in NASCAR and I hope she does good. She loves to race and thats what I like about her. Anyway, all I am trying to say is media give it a rest. I knew Michael Jackson was dead the first time I heard it. I didn't need to hear about it for another four months.

Five time champion

First off, congratulations to Jimmie Johnson on his second win of the season. Well, thats pretty much what the rest of this post is going to be about. So enjoy.

I would like to go ahead and congratulate Jimmie on his fifth championship in a row. The 48 team is unstoppable. The combination of the crew chief, pit crew, driver, Hendrick chasis, and Hendrick engines make this the best team in NASCAR.

Not only is this team dominating in the early part of the season but they always dominate in the chase too. After a dismal Talladega race, NASCAR decided to let the drivers police themselves and look what happened. The Daytona 500 was one of the best races I have seen in a long time. Despite the track delay.

The drivers were having fun out there. They wanted to get back out and race. NASCAR needs to lay off like this from now on. I would even like to see NASCAR take it way back and let them fight if it came down to it. These drivers have a lot of emotion and they want to win. NASCAR needs to let them show that emotion. Maybe someone would finally kick the crap out of Kyle Busch. That would bring the ratings up.

So again, hats off to NASCAR. I think this is the first time I have ever heard the crowd actually cheer for him when he got out to get the checkered flag.

Busch won the pole but was forced to start in the back because of an engine change. He won 21 races last year in all divisions of NASCAR. He has already won three this year. This kid is amazing. Before the race Jeff Gordon even said that Busch has more talent than he could ever dream about.

Clint Bowyer, Jeff Burton, David Reutimann, and Bobby Labonte rounded out the top five. I want to give a big way-to-go to Labonte, too. I like when underdogs do well.

I would also like to give a rookie award to Jeff Gordon on missing the pits and blowing a tire. Good call Jeff.

The race was pretty exciting with the almost 15 cautions it had. Engines were the big problem. I thought Sam Hornish might actually make it through a race with out wrecking but I was wrong. Pole sitter and winner Kyle Busch had to go to the back of the pack after an engine change.

TRD, the engine builders for Michael Waltrip Racing and Red Bull Racing were having issues with the lifters wearing out the lobes on the cam shaft. However, all of their problems came in practice and not in the race like Roush Fenway delt with.

Matt Kenseth lost his engine on lap six, ruining his chances at a first ever three-peat. Then on lap 72, David Ragan, also of Roush Fenway, lost his engine too. But that wasn't the end of their troubles. Carl Edwards, who ran up front all day lost his engine with one lap to go while in the top five.

Mark Martin also blew an engine. His problem came from the engine being over revved. His transmission slipped out of gear and the result was a blown engine.

Kenseth holds off Gordon to win back to back

Matt Kenseth held off Jeff Gordon in the closing laps of the Auto Club 500 in Fontana, Calif.

Kenseth becomes only the fifth driver to win the first two races of the NASCAR season. The last to do it you ask? Jeff Gordon back in 1997.

Kenseth took the lead from Gordon with 38 laps while leaving the pits. A few times Gordon would close the gap on Kenseth but could never get the job done.

Congratulations to Kenseth and his new team this year. They are really getting the job done.

It wasn't all rainbows and cupcakes for everyone though. This track played havoc on a lot of cars too.

Running 9,500 rpm's can do a lot of damage to an engine over 500 miles and we saw that. Hendrick lost a few cars including Dale Jr. and Mark Martin to engine failure.

RCR also had a lot of problems with their cars as well. Their highest finisher was Clint Bowyer, who finished 19th. I don't know if they didn't have the setups they wanted or they weren't making enough power but they had a terrible day.

I would also like to say congrats to Tony Stewart for finishing 8th. He is definitely not gonna be a Michael Waltrip. He has the talent to drive, own a team, and win. Unlike other owner/drivers in the series.

What are your thoughts on the race. I know it was raining but they new it was coming. They should have just gave them a 20 lap shootout before it started to rain. That is the whole excitement of the race, the last 10 laps. At lap 10 they all start to get close and battle. What are your opinions? Leave them in the comments section. I want to hear what the fans would have wanted.

The race was filled with calamities including the Dale Jr., Brian Vickers altercation. No matter who was at fault for this, it was hilarious. Lets battle over the lucky dog position with 70 something laps to go. You gave the victory to the wrong driver.

Tony Stewart forced Smith below the yellow line. Maybe you will get something right sometime NASCAR. No, wait, that will never happen.

Smith should have just wrecked Stewart like Vickers wrecked Jr. and Jimmie Johnson a few years ago. No, if he would have done that, NASCAR would have taken his victory away. It was a lose-lose situation for Smith. But congratulations to him on his second place finish.

And now on to another terrible move. Congratulations to Carl Edwards for taking out two of his teammates and other chasers. It was a good idea to stay out of trouble in the back all day. Then he had to go and cause the big one. My predictions were way off. (read previous entry for clarification.)

Now on to the championship standings.

Jimmie Johnson had the luckiest day of anyone. He is destined to win his third championship. He squeezed through all the wrecks, had trouble with his engine and still managed to get a top 10 finish.

Talladega

Alright, lets talk about the crap shoot that Talladega is. This is a race that could possibly take out every chaser in one wreck. I know this is one of the most exciting races in the chase, but it is also the most dangerous for the drivers in the chase because you can't just dodge the big one.

It is also a big race because the fans love Dale Jr. and he is great at this track. In fact, his sponsor decided to sponsor the race this year. That's right, its the Amp energy 500. They know that all the Jr. fans will be there and they are going to reach their target market. By target market I mean the 150,000 plus people there and the other how ever many million watching.

Who is going to win?
You always have to count on Jeff Gordon and Dale Jr. They are a constant. This year you have to look at the two Roush drivers, Carl Edwards and Greg Biffle, because they have the momentum. You also have to watch Jimmie Johnson because he is just that good every where.

Another question I am going to ask is who is going to cause the big one?
You have a lot of drivers who could cause this. If I was a casino I would make odds on this and let people bet. I am going to pick a few that I think may just do it. The first is Robby Gordon. He ruined McMurray's chance of winning a few weeks ago when Jamie had the best car. Another driver is Michael Waltrip. He is just getting worse and needs to focus on being a team owner and not a driver. And the one that I would put all of my money on, Sam Hornish Jr. this guy wreckes every week. Sometimes more than once in one race. He will definetly take everyone out. I think I am going to call my bookie. You should do the same. Who do you think will cause the big one?

long time gone

Well it has been a long time since I have updated (thanks hurricane for knocking out my T.V. for two weeks) and a lot of things have happened.

First of all, three races of the chase are over and Jimmie Johnson leads Carl Edwards by 10 points. These two drivers and Greg Biffle have been the dominant teams in the chase. But you have to hand it to Roush . They have been the dominant team so far in the chase.

I almost forgot. Lets talk about the most important and surprising event. Kyle Busch went from domination to crap in three races. He went from winning everything all season to twelfth place in the chase. Every race he has had some sort of mechanical problems with his engine. And boy do I love to see them interview him after the race. He is such a baby and answers the questions like an a-hole. Given, the media does ask stupid questions that just rub his misfortune in his face. Like, "how does it feel to have your season blow up in your face and know your not going to win the championship after being the best all year?" I would probably be mad too.

Another event that I didn't get to write about was that of the Carl Edwards, Kyle Busch incident at Bristol. I know it was a long time ago but I loved it and all the fans loved it. I wanted to see them fight. Kyle Busch would get beat up just like Jimmy Spencer beat up his brother. (I think that's who it was.)

If there is anything else that I missed and you want me to talk about just send me an email and I will write about it. If you have something to say or want to write about something in NASCAR, send me an e-mail and I will put it up. If it is suitable. We have standards here at Race day review. He held off series points leader Kyle Busch for the win.

As of now, Carl will start the chase in second place with 40 points. While Busch will start with 80.

I think these two drivers will be competing for the championship. They have both been the dominant teams this year.

It was also a big points day for the top 12. Jeff Gordon had a crash. Kahne blew an engine. Hamlin also blew an engine. It dropped all of these drivers in the points and moved Matt Kenseth up a few spots.

Another driver who is impressive is David Ragan. Sweeping the road coarse races and winning for the eighth time this season.

A lot of people don't like Kyle Busch, and I will admit it, I am one of them. But you gotta give it to this incredible driver. He is either win or wreck, balls to the wall and that is the only thing I like about him. He can win on any type of track, in any type of vehicle. He has talent. I think he will win the championship.

I wonder if he has ever thought about going to a different series of racing. His team took a gamble and it paid off with his fourth victory of the season. Edwards is the only Ford driver to win this year.

The race went under red flag because of a shower that came through with about 80 laps left. Edwards pitted before the rain came which gave him the advantage in the end.

The race was pretty exciting compared to last week. Probably because the tires stayed up.

The race for the chase is heating up more and more each week. Matt Kenseth is now 11 points out of the 12th spot. There are only 100 points separating 7th from 13th place. Some big name driver is going to be watching the chase from the 13th position. I think that driver may be Clint Bowyer.

Pocono finish
1. Carl Edwards
2. Tony Stewart
3. Jimmie Johnson
4. There were almost 300 people logged on talking and the one thing everyone talked about was the poor job that TNT is doing.

Everyone was complaining about how many commercials they have. And boy do they have a lot.

It is not only the commercials, but they never break back in to show you the action. When FOX does the races, they break in on the commercial to show whats goin on. TNT will not even delay going to a commercial to show a battle for the lead.

I think that TNT is just in this game for the money. They pimp themselves to whom ever they can for as much money as they can.

I don't think they care about the racing they just want the money and attention to pimp their other shows.

I think announcers are ok, they just need to get their act together. This is the sixth win for Busch this season.

Carl Edwards came in second and Matt Kenseth came in third.

The race was actually pretty entertaining. Tony Stewart got out of the car early because he was ill. He was replaced by J.J. Yeley. He also fell to 12 place in the overall standings.

There was a lot of single car spins, which is unusual. The only big wreck took place on the final lap that gave Busch the win.

For all of Jr. nation out there, he led the most laps but ended up finishing in the eighth spot. He also led the most laps and leads the championship points race. This is his fifth win in the Nextel Cup this season.

Well it was a usual NASCAR road race, boring. It may be fun watching it live but TNT likes to show more commercials than the actual race.

It's no fun for me watching someone lead every lap (unless it's my favorite driver). It did get exciting towards the end though. I also don't like how they hire all the road course ringers to take the places of the regular drivers.
I did, however, like that the Wood Brothers hired Marcos Ambrose to driver the 21 car. He races in the Nationwide series every weekend and I was glad to see that they gave him the chance to run his first NASCAR Nextel Cup Series race. He did a great job until he got wrecked and broke a gear on lap 84. I think you will see him back in that car again this season.

The most exciting part was the wreck with less than 10 laps to go that involved the third, fourth and fifth place cars of Stewart, McMurray and Harvick.

Jeff Gordon got a great finish after having such a bad car all day long. Hendrick Motorsports had 3 finish in the top 12. Earnhardt Jr finished 12

Top 10

1. Kyle Busch
2. David Gilliland
3. But it wasn't smooth sailing the whole way. While leading in the final laps, Jr. was racing side by side with Kyle Busch when Busch got loose and hit the side of Jr's number 88, causing him to spin and hit the wall. So now all of Jr. nation hates Kyle Busch, just like every other race fan. I think someone needs to put him in his place just like Jimmy Spencer did his brother a few years back.

Top 5

1 Clint Bowyer
2 Kyle Busch
3 Mark Martin
4 Tony Stewart
5 Martin Truex Jr.

Richmond

I am going to pick Denny Hamlin today. I think we will see the same thing tonight.

Ok, now on to the winner. I was busy last week and didn't have time to pick a winner but I will pick the same driver I was going to pick last week, Carl Edwards.

I am going to make two picks. First, I think that a Dodge will win the race, and that dodge will be Kasey Kahne. It will be a good race Dodge.

The reason for the second pick is more of a power ranking. Even though Kahne will win, Carl Edwards will battle him for the win. He has three wins and is coming into this race off a win. I think he has the momentum to win.

who do you think will win? The fans love to come to the hills of Tennessee to eat, drink, party, enjoy the company of the other 160,000 camping fans and watch the beatin' and bangin' racing style Bristol has to offer.
I know this experience first hand, and you can't beat it. If you have never been to a race, I recommend this track to anyone. And if your not a fan, you will be after seeing a race at Bristol. Stewart hit the wall last week after blowing a tire and had to be helped to the ambulance because of the hard hit.
Next week NASCAR goes short track racing at Bristol Motor Speedway. All but two of these teams have went to a backup.
So far Patrick Carpentier, Juan Montoya, Bobby Labonte, and Reed Sorenson have all went to backup cars while Kasey Kahne and Sam Hornish Jr. are still using the cars the same cars.
This is the most backup cars we have ever seen being used with the Car of Tomorrow. Last year only one team used a backup car in the 16 COT races. That was the 99 team of Carl Edwards.
The Sprint Cup drivers aren't the only ones having trouble with the slick track. If you think another driver is going to win, post who you think will win in the comments. Also list why you think they are going to win.
Alright, lets get down to business.
For this week, the Daytona 500, I am going to take Tony Stewart. After seeing Stewart run in the Gatorade duels and the Nationwide race last night, I think he is going to sweep both races like Harvick did last year.
That number 20 Toyota is making an incredible amount of horsepower. Not to mention that Stewart knows how to get around this track.
I think Toyota will get their first points race win today and Stewart will get it for them.

Dont forget to post who you think will win.

Thanks for reading and hope you all enjoy watching the Daytona 500.

Good call NASCAR

Finally, NASCAR has made a great call. Today NASCAR announced the penalties for Kurt Busch and Tony Stewarts on track and off track fiasco where Busch apparently got "smoked."
Last Friday while practicing for the Bud Shootout, Busch tried to block Stewart which led to both of them crashing. After the initial wreck, Busch used his car to take shots at Stewart’s car which in my opinion is out of line. And NASCAR apparently agrees.
This year NASCAR claims that they are going back to their roots and the penalties they enforced show just that. After the wreck and the bumps by Busch, both drivers were called to the NASCAR trailer for a meeting. In the meeting, Stewart apparently threw a punch that landed on Bushes’ face. And this is where the good call by NASCAR comes in.
The penalties that were released Tuesday, Feb. 12, were probation for six races for both drivers. NASCAR only penalized the drivers for their on-track altercations. No fines or penalties were given for what happened in the trailer, and that’s what I like to hear.
NASCAR should not fine or penalize the drivers for taking out their aggression on another drivers face. These are grown men who are responsible for themselves and their actions. If Kurt Busch wants to run his mouth off to a much bigger guy, then let him. If he wants to fight another driver who wrecked him, let him.
These drivers are so passionate about they do for a living it is hard for them to bottle up the emotion after being wrecked. Before, they had to hide this emotion so they wouldn't get fined and points taken away by NASCAR. Now, if NASCAR lets them fight things out, you will see the true side of the drivers come out. Like Carl Edwards giving Matt Kenseth the old' flinch test last year.
Let them fight it out NASCAR.

Daytona qualifying crapshoot

So we found out yesterday that Jimmie Johnson will start on the pole and Michael Waltrip will start on the outside pole. Yes, I said Michael Waltrip.
Last year Waltrip had a bad start to the year after being penalized for an illegal substance being found in the engine of his car. It ruined his season because he was never able to come back from the points that he had deducted.
Anyway, while watching qualifying I wondered how the heck they came up with this crapshoot they call qualifying. Who thought this would be a fair way to get into the race. I mean it does make it more interesting for the fans. Well, for those of us who are fans of the drivers in the top 35. The rest of the fans, and the drivers for that matter, will be biting their nails until they try to race their way in on Thursday.
NASCAR needs to use the same type of qualifying they use for every other race. It is going to be very upsetting for the go-or-go-homers like Boris Said, who would already be in the show if this was another race. Now he doesn't have to worry about his driving skills, but that of 2o plus other drivers vying for the same spot.
Even though it is very entertaining, NASCAR has to rethink the entire Daytona qualifying. They should also rethink the top 35 rule but thats another story for another time.

Thanks for reading, hope you enjoyed. The COT allowed for door-to-door racing the entire race. Throughout the race no one seemed to have a particular advantage, besides Jr. leading for 40 something laps. No one car could pull away and leave the pack. It also handled well in crisis mode.
When Kurt Busch got a little loose, his car stuck to the ground instead of going airborne like the old car would have. This is due to the side plates on the spoiler. When the car steps out in the rear, the spoiler side plates put added down force and allow the car to straighten out.
Alright I'm getting way off topic.
Toyota had a great run with Tony Stewert and Dave Blaney. Yesterday I wrote that Stewert would give Toyota their first win. But seeing Blaney man-handle that Toyota up front all night he may be the man for the job. He performed well last year but I think this year he may be a force in the Toyota camp.
And now for the topic everyone has been waiting for, Dale Jr. will battle for the championship this year. I know that Jr. is very good at plate racing, but I think he will show his true potential with Hendrick. Jr. showed an excellent display of team work, which they are all about at Hendrick. Close to the end he didn't leave Jimmie Johnson to block Stewert like he would have before and it cost him a position to Stewert, but ended up giving him the win.
I think Jr. will show his true potential as a driver at Hendrick. Not just because Hendrick has the COT down, but because Jr. is a great driver. He will learn a lot from the hated but very talented Jeff Gordon, and Jimmie Johnson. He didn't have a role model to learn from at DEI so if he wanted to win a championship he had to make the move to another team and he knew it.
Can't wait until the 500

Thanks for reading, hope you come back and visit.

Who will give Toyota their first win?

As I sit here in front of the television watching NACAR practice, I am starting to think that Toyota may have a great season. Toyota will get their first win, and that win may just come in the Daytona 500.
Right now in practice, 3 of the top 5 cars are Toyotas. And two of top three Toyotas are from the team that will give Toyota their first win. Tony Stewart is fastest and Denny Hamlin is third. I know these practices don't mean much but it shows a little.
Toyota teaming with Joe Gibbs is the best move they have made since coming to NASCAR. Gibbs has great drivers that know how to win. They also have loyal fans that will support their favorite driver no matter what kind of car they drive.
Lets start with Tony Stewart, the driver who has the best chance of giving Toyota its win in the 500. Tony is a very aggressive driver, but at the same time knows how to get the job done at any track, especially Daytona. In 2005 and 2006 Stewart had five wins and in 2007 he won three. Tony could win a race in my grandmas Buick Skylark.
Next is Denny Hamlin. In his three years in the Sprint Cup Series Hamlin has three wins, 20 top fives and 41 top 10's. He will have a good season and will give Toyota at least one win.
Next for Gibbs is new-comer Kyle Busch. In four seasons he has four wins, 30 top fives and 51 top 10's. This young, talented and very aggressive driver also knows how to get it done on the track.
I think the Gibbs team will get at post at least four wins for Toyota this year. Toyota should have came in NASCAR with a good team like Gibbs instead of putting all their time and money into new teams without the credentials.

Is NASCAR getting too expensive for everyone?

Is David Gilliland going to drive an unsponsored car in the Bud Shootout Saturday? With the season almost underway more than 10 drivers are still without primary sponsors for the season.
Is this do to the fear of a recession or are corporations moving away from NASCAR because of the rising cost of team sponsorship?
I think it may be the latter. Even though signs of a recession are showing, some major corporations are increasing their advertising budgets for the upcoming year.
Last week Proctor & Gamble Co., Colgate-Palmolive Co., Kraft Foods, and Kellogg Co. all boosted or maintained their marketing budget for the year. This is no small amount of money either.
Accoding to adage.com, last year Kellogg increased their marketing budget to about nine percent of sales, or about $1.1 billion.
These companies have a lot of money to spend but they have to do it wisely. It cost more than $20 million a year to be a primary sponsor in the NASCAR Sprint Series. Even though NASCAR has the most loyal sponsor purchasing fans, these companies have to look at their return on investment.
In advertising, companies use CPM, which stands for cost per thousand (you thought millions huh). This is used to find out how much it costs to reach 1000 viewers. The CPM may have gone up too much and the sponsors are finding other ways to reach more viewers for less money.
NASCAR should look for a way to lower the teams cost. O yeah, they did that already. It's called the Car of Tomorrow. But is it really going to work? We will find out when the first full season with the COT is over.

About me

Just thought I would give a little information about the site and what we are here for. I am a 24 year-old college student who has been a fan of NASCAR for all of my life. I am open to any ideas about the site that my readers may have. In fact, I would like to hear what you have to say. Start some comments in the comments section about anything you would like. Like your favorite drivers, teams, or just about the upcoming season.
I am gonna try to post something new everyday once the season gets in full swing.
